OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Fairies, Faes and Sprites, Oh My! (The FFS Club)

by on Nov.03, 2016, under Announcements

Fairies, Faes, and Sprites, Oh My! (The FFS Club)

It takes all kinds! From the cute, twinkie fairies to the rough and tumble faes and even those outdoorsy types of sprites to make up the FFS. No discrimination in this club…okay, maybe some are a bit biased against humans and other paranormal creatures but can you blame them? Those in the FFS no matter how masculine or butch are always thought of as “those cute pixie dust spreading winged creatures”. Club bylines: 1) must be at least 50% fairy/fae/sprite; 2) must be willing to be open-minded; 3) no casting spells on other members of the club; and 4) as the witches say (okay, yeah, they might have gotten something right) – above all else, do no harm.

Submissions should:

All stories should have one (or both) of the main characters as either a fairy/fae/sprite

Be a minimum of 10k, maximum of 40k

Any subgenre is welcome and all prohibitive guidelines are observed

Submissions should be sent to special_submissions@mlrpress.com

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: March 5, 2017

Any questions can be sent to Kris Jacen at KrisJacen@mlrpress.com

GOING FOR GOLD

(m/m Olympic-themed romance stories 5-10k)
Edited by EM Lynley
Published by MLR Press

It’s been over a year since EM Lynley put together an anthology and she is
excited to announce she’ll be doing a new series of m/m anthologies starting with
GOING FOR GOLD. The theme this time around is the Olympics, with a target
release in late August or early September.

We are looking for anything that can be tied into the Olympic Games (Summer or
Winter!). It can be contemporary, historical, fantasy, sci-fi, even
paranormal if you have a great idea for the Vampire Olympics.
MLR Press would like to see something different, like the guy who wants to
be on the Badminton team or the BMX rider who lusts after the captain of the
Equestrian team. There are 36 different sports in the 2012 London Games, and
another 20 in the Winter Olympics, so you have plenty of inspiration.
What about a non-sportsman: a spectator who is seduced by a gold-medal winner
(or vice versa!)? Or a guy on the staff at Olympic Village who sees lots of
action off the playing fields? Did your characters compete in ancient Greece
or do they play for two different countries now? Does your main character
dream of carrying the torch or dancing in the opening ceremony? Tell us about him!

The key factor we’re looking for is chemistry between the partners beyond the
sexual attraction. EM would like to see the makings of a romance.

Transgendered and bisexual characters welcome!

NO: underage sex, bestiality, non-consensual sex, necrophilia or scat/water
play.

Since some sports are more popular than others, the editor would strongly suggest sending
her an email letting her know what you’re interested in writing (include a
paragraph or two mentioning the sport and basic plot) so we don’t get too
many stories about the same sports or are too similar. If you have
experience competing in a particular sport, let her know. It makes the story
really come alive for a reader.

DEADLINE: July 10, 2012. Rolling acceptances, so earlier is better. If you
can’t make the deadline contact the editor to discuss.

LENGTH: 5k-10k. Were looking for full stories with engaging characters and
containing beginnings, middles and ends. It’s hard to do that well under 5k.
We’re more flexible on the upper end of the range. Please polish your story
before sending!

PAYMENT: Royalty split between authors. Since the editor prefers longer stories,
rather than many short ones, chances are you won’t have many other authors
to share with.

EM Lynley also writes for Dreamspinner Press, Silver Publishing and Torquere, and
edits for Silver. Lynley’s previous anthologies include: BEDKNOBS &
BEANSTALKS (m/m fairy tales), WICKED GOOD (m/m angels and demons), and
RUMPLED SILK SHEETS (f/f fairy tales). Contact her online: http://www.emlynley.com/

Email the editor if you have questions: Lynley.editor@gmail.com
